I love your work! I really like how you render faces and add lighting! Can I ask: Do you know of any resources like books, videos, etc that you could recommend to help me improve? I would really appreciate it if you could PM me with your recommendations! Again, this is fantastic work! Congratulations!

Tosyasha responds:

Thanks! I don't know what is PM you)) so I'll answer here) as for me, I was studying from realistic portrait artists mostly, especially Russians: Ilia Repin, Valentin Serov, Feshin, Lev Russov and so on. And I was reading in Russian. So don't know any art literature in English. To improve you need practice from real life, it's everything there, as my teachers were saying)))

Dude!! This is pretty solid work! I am going to offer you some criticism, but it is completely subjective!
1. I think that your piece relies too much on the outline. But then again, maybe it is the style you wanted to go with :)
2. I feel like your lacking a bit of texture!
Again, this is entirely subjective! The action poses, the facial expressions, the shadows and highlights are all spot on! :)

rezahales responds:

Thank you so much for appreciation and critics. Yeah, actually I am going to make it without outline. But I can't because that will take me longer time to finish it since I worked it in about few last days. So I just left the outline there at last.

Pretty awesome dude! The ice effects look awesome. I do want to offer some contructive criticism I hope you find it usefull:
1. I can't really tell if Santa is kneeling or sitting down, I

KCDallas responds:

Thank you very much. You are half right lol! He is basically just doing the Captain Morgan one knee up.

This is pretty solid work my friend! I especially like the facial expressions and the dark, dark approach of Santa Claus!

Awesome piece, brother! I do have a couple of criticisms that I hope you will find useful:
1. Grim, dark, bad ass, but not entirely epic - I feel like your piece could have used more action poses to strengthen the idea of Santa being epic. I feel like a soldier shooting is more interesting than a soldier walking IMO.
2. Photoshopping in your references instead of painting them - this one is very straight forward, this is specially noticeable with the snow.
Please excuse any grammar errors :) I will upload my entry soon, it's nowhere near as good as yours but I do hope you can review it and help me improve :)

Flowers10 responds:

Thanks mang! I'm looking forward to seeing it!
1. Yeah i suppose your right them shooting would probobly be more epic. but because of my design background i wanted it to seem like a convoy them protecting the presents with santa leading.
I feel like if they were all fighting the trucks with presents would be kind of out of place, like what are they doing in a battlezone? good idea for a different pic tho!
2. i'll let you know that about 90% of the pic has been painted, the trick is to use the photoshopig right and in the right spots.
